About WESTERN ELECTRIC
The Western Electric Company was an American electrical engineering and manufacturing company officially founded in 1869. It was a subsidiary of the American Telephone and Telegraph Company for most of its lifespan, and served as the primary equipment manufacturer, supplier, and purchasing agent for the Bell System from 1881 until 1984, when the system was dismantled.
Western Electric was responsible for many technological innovations, including the development of the vacuum tube, the coaxial cable, and the transistor. The company also played a major role in the development of the telephone system, the electrical power grid, and the radio and television broadcasting industries.
